The project is part of the broader strategy by the Government of Sierra Leone to address unemployment, environmental degradation, and social vulnerability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Green Public Works program is a key pillar of President Julius Maada Bio\u2019s agenda for Human Capital Development and job creation. It is designed to provide temporary employment for vulnerable groups\u2014particularly youth, women, and persons with disabilities\u2014while also implementing climate-smart activities such as reforestation, garbage collection, urban greening, and flood mitigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Government Reaffirms Commitment to Inclusive Growth<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Delivering the keynote address at the launch, <strong>Ambassador Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina<\/strong>, who represented the Presidency, described the GPW initiative as a powerful tool to tackle two of Sierra Leone\u2019s most pressing challenges: youth unemployment and environmental degradation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis is more than just a public works project,\u201d Ambassador Ndomahina said. \u201cIt is a demonstration of the President\u2019s unwavering belief that the youth of Sierra Leone are not just the leaders of tomorrow, but also the changemakers of today. By engaging our youth in tree planting and sanitation drives, we are not only addressing these issues head-on but also equipping our young people with valuable skills that will serve them for life.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>She further noted that the project is a step toward building a greener, more inclusive district and called on community members to take full ownership of the project to ensure its sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Broader Community Engagement and Support<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The launch attracted a cross-section of local authorities, including representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Youth Affairs, district councillors, traditional leaders, and civil society groups. The strong turnout demonstrated widespread support for the GPW initiative and the broader objectives of the PSSNYE project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several community leaders also pledged their commitment to supporting the smooth rollout of the project in Kenema and beyond, citing the potential economic and social benefits for underserved populations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis is a game-changer for our communities,\u201d said <strong>Councilor Amadu Kallon<\/strong> of Kenema District. \u201cWith proper implementation and community buy-in, we can improve our urban environment and provide hope for our unemployed youth.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A National Vision with Global Support<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>PSSNYE project<\/strong> is jointly funded by the <strong>World Bank<\/strong> and the Government of Sierra Leone and is being implemented across multiple districts. It combines elements of social protection, livelihood support, and climate resilience to uplift the country\u2019s most vulnerable populations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his statement, the <strong>NaCSA Commissioner<\/strong>, represented by the Director of Field Operations, thanked development partners for their steadfast support and reiterated the Commission\u2019s resolve to deliver on the project\u2019s objectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cOur goal is not only to create temporary jobs but also to instill a culture of environmental responsibility, civic engagement, and community pride,\u201d the Director said. \u201cWe are committed to making this program a model for sustainable development in Sierra Leone.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>He further noted that the Green Public Works component is aligned with the <strong>Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP 2019\u20132023)<\/strong> and the <strong>National Youth Employment Strategy<\/strong>, both of which prioritize inclusive growth, environmental protection, and decent work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Looking Ahead<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The project will see hundreds of youths employed in activities ranging from tree planting, composting, drainage clearing, and greening of public spaces.
