By placing democratic governance and constitutional order at the top of his agenda, he signaled a strong commitment to reversing recent democratic backsliding in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His pledge to <strong>revitalise security cooperation<\/strong> also comes amid growing concerns over terrorism and insurgency in parts of the Sahel and coastal West Africa. President Bio urged member states to recommit to <strong>collective action and solidarity<\/strong>, particularly in addressing transnational threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Driving Economic Integration and Institutional Reform<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The third pillar of his agenda\u2014<strong>accelerated economic integration<\/strong>\u2014focuses on removing trade barriers, facilitating cross-border infrastructure, and enhancing regional value chains to promote inclusive growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also emphasised the need to <strong>strengthen ECOWAS institutions<\/strong> to improve transparency, accountability, and responsiveness. President Bio called for a people-centered ECOWAS that serves citizens, not just political elites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cWe must restore confidence in ECOWAS as a credible, proactive, and democratic institution that works in the interest of our people,\u201d<\/em> he noted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Tribute to Predecessor and Call for Unity<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>President Bio paid tribute to his predecessor, <strong>Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu<\/strong>, praising his leadership during a period of significant regional turbulence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cI wish to acknowledge and commend the outstanding leadership of my predecessor and dear brother, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,\u201d<\/em> President Bio said. <em>\u201cHis stewardship helped steer the bloc through a period of uncertainty.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>President Bio\u2019s elevation to the ECOWAS chairmanship has been broadly welcomed by fellow leaders and political observers across West Africa.
