Africa\u2019s Global Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, has once again reaffirmed its position as a catalyst for youth empowerment and leadership development across the continent. In a resounding demonstration of this commitment, the bank has welcomed 700 young professionals<\/strong> into its workforce through the Graduate Management Accelerated Programme (GMAP)<\/strong> \u2014 a flagship talent development initiative that continues to shape the next generation of leaders driving Africa\u2019s growth and transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The graduation ceremony, held on Sunday, October 19, 2025<\/strong>, at the Landmark Events Centre in Lagos<\/strong>, was a vibrant celebration of ambition, excellence, and the promise of a brighter African future. The event brought together graduates from Nigeria and other African countries where UBA operates, creating a powerful mosaic of talent, diversity, and shared purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Present at the ceremony were distinguished personalities including UBA Group Chairman, Tony O. Elumelu, CFR<\/strong>, Deputy Group Managing Director, Chukwuma Nweke<\/strong>, members of the Board, Executive Management, and faculty members of the GMAP. Together, they warmly received the new graduates into what is fondly known as the UBA Tribe<\/strong> \u2014 a community built on innovation, excellence, and shared values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since its inception just over three years ago, the Graduate Management Accelerated Programme (GMAP)<\/strong> has become one of the most impactful career development initiatives on the continent. The programme, designed to identify, nurture, and empower young talents, has already produced over 4,000 professionals<\/strong> who now occupy key positions within the bank and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GMAP combines rigorous academic training, hands-on experience, and leadership mentorship<\/strong> to ensure participants are not only prepared for the challenges of modern banking but are also equipped to lead innovation in Africa\u2019s financial landscape. The six-month intensive programme blends classroom learning, digital simulations, field assignments, and mentorship from senior executives \u2014 ensuring that graduates gain a 360-degree understanding of the financial ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his keynote address, Tony Elumelu<\/strong>, the visionary Group Chairman of UBA, described the graduates as \u201clions and lionesses<\/strong>,\u201d symbolising the courage, drive, and tenacity the bank expects them to bring into their professional journeys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are happy to have you as part of this tribe,\u201d Elumelu said with pride. \u201cAt UBA, we strongly believe in the transformative power of young people. A few decades ago, I was once in your shoes \u2014 fresh out of university, filled with ambition and uncertainty. Today, I am proud that this organisation continues to offer the same opportunity that helped shape my own journey.
