The launch stands as a powerful testament to the company\u2019s continued commitment to <strong>digital inclusion, rural connectivity, and national development<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the difficult terrain and poor road infrastructure, <strong>Orange Sierra Leone\u2019s Chief Executive Officer, Sekou Amadou Bah<\/strong>, led his team through the challenging route to personally oversee the commissioning. His presence in Mathonkra underscored the company\u2019s resolve to connect even the most remote communities to reliable, high-speed mobile services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Welcoming guests, <strong>Paramount Chief P.C. Bai Kafari II of Tene Chiefdom<\/strong> praised Orange Sierra Leone for being the first telecommunications company to bring reliable connectivity to the area. Today, Orange has brought us closer to the rest of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chief described the new site as a <strong>transformative development<\/strong> that would enhance access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. He also urged residents to protect the site from vandalism, ensuring it remains a community asset for generations to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also addressing the gathering, <strong>Hon. Daniel Fornah<\/strong>, Member of Parliament for Tonkolili District, commended Orange Sierra Leone for prioritizing inclusivity in its service delivery. Drawing on his <strong>18 years of experience<\/strong> in the telecommunications industry, he described the project as <em>\u201ca remarkable step in breaking the long-standing digital isolation of Tonkolili.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cFor many years, companies viewed Tonkolili as unviable for telecommunications investment,\u201d he said. \u201cToday, Orange has proven that narrative wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Hon. Fornah emphasized that the new site would serve as a <strong>catalyst for economic growth, education, and job creation<\/strong>, noting that connectivity expands opportunities and strengthens communities. He emphasized that <strong>digital connectivity empowers youth, facilitates financial inclusion, and fuels innovation and entrepreneurship<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Highlighting Orange\u2019s progress, Bah revealed that the company operates <strong>over 616 sites nationwide<\/strong>, with <strong>70% powered by green energy solutions<\/strong>, aligning with <strong>Orange Group\u2019s global net-zero carbon emissions goal by 2040<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIn 2025 alone, we have built 40 new sites,\u201d he disclosed. \u201cWe\u2019ve invested over <strong>US$50 million<\/strong> to modernize our network, ensuring all sites are <strong>4G-enabled and 5G-ready<\/strong>. This demonstrates our confidence in Sierra Leone\u2019s digital future.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>He reaffirmed Orange\u2019s role as a <strong>development partner<\/strong>, committed to supporting government efforts to build a <strong>connected, inclusive, and sustainable economy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cTogether, we are building more than a network; we are building bridges of opportunity that connect people and communities,\u201d Bah maintained.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>In his closing remarks, the CEO expressed appreciation to the people of Tonkolili for their warm hospitality and partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cLong live the people of Tonkolili District, and long live our beloved Sierra Leone. <em>Una tenki!<\/em>\u201d he declared, drawing loud applause from the crowd.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Delivering the keynote address, <strong>Madam Salima Bah<\/strong>, <strong>Minister of Communication, Technology and Innovation<\/strong>, reaffirmed the Government\u2019s unwavering commitment to expanding digital access nationwide. She emphasized that <strong>communication is no longer a privilege, but a basic human right<\/strong>\u2014essential to education, innovation, and development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cConnectivity should not be for a few privileged people in urban areas,\u201d Minister Bah stated. \u201cEvery Sierra Leonean, regardless of location or income, deserves the right to communicate and access information.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>She applauded the <strong>local leadership of Mathonkra<\/strong> for supporting the project and urged communities to <strong>take ownership<\/strong> of the new infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis site is a major investment worth thousands of dollars,\u201d she said. \u201cIf you protect it, the company will reinvest and expand more. When they profit, they pay taxes and create jobs\u2014that\u2019s how national growth happens.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister Bah linked the initiative to <strong>President Julius Maada Bio\u2019s digital inclusion agenda<\/strong>, launched in 2018, which aims to ensure that every chiefdom in Sierra Leone has reliable mobile and internet access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis Government believes that communication drives education, business, and development,\u201d she noted. \u201cWhen our people are connected, our nation moves forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>She further highlighted that the launch represents a <strong>long-term investment in human capital<\/strong>, improving access to <strong>online education, e-health services, and digital finance<\/strong>. The Minister also announced plans to expand such projects through <strong>ICT training, digital literacy programs<\/strong>, and <strong>technology-equipped schools and health centers<\/strong> in underserved areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cMathonkra is just the beginning,\u201d she added. \u201cWe will continue to partner with the private sector to ensure no community is left behind in the digital revolution.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The event drew a large turnout of <strong>community elders, youth groups, local leaders, and company officials<\/strong>, all united in celebration and hope.
