He said since assuming office, his administration has focused on reforms, transparency and visible development within a short period.

He explained that within six months in office, his leadership has prioritised structured administration over personal recognition, noting that the SLFA is now recording measurable progress in competition management. He cited the successful organisation of domestic competitions, including the FA Cup, describing it as historic in terms of coordination and participation.

President Kamara also highlighted improvements in player registration and data management, revealing that all players participating in the league are now registered through the FIFA Transfer Matching System and the FIFA Connect platform. He said this has enhanced transparency and credibility in the management of football records across clubs in the country.

On infrastructure, he assured parliamentarians that efforts are underway to give the SLFA Secretariat a significant facelift before August 2025, stressing that visible transformation will reflect the seriousness of the current administration.

Training and capacity building, he said, remain central to his agenda. For the first time in over ten years, coaching courses have been organised consistently, including License D and License C programmes, with plans to progress to License B and A certifications. He further disclosed that foreign experts have been engaged to train club administrators and technical personnel on modern football management systems, including the effective use of the FIFA Connect platform.

In terms of sponsorship, President Kamara revealed that when he took over, sponsorship revenue stood at 180,000 dollars, but the association has since secured additional financial backing. Notably, he said, the SLFA obtained a landmark sponsorship package of 150,000 dollars for the Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League, describing it as the first major female league sponsorship in the country’s football history.

Despite these achievements, President Kamara acknowledged serious challenges, particularly the inability of Sierra Leone to host international matches at home. For several years, the national team has been playing its home fixtures in countries such as Liberia, Guinea and Morocco due to the lack of a CAF and FIFA-approved stadium in the country.

He described the situation as a major disadvantage, explaining that football thrives on home support from fans, often referred to as the “12th man.” According to him, playing away from home deprives the team of morale, national pride and financial benefits that come with hosting international matches.

President Kamara informed the committee that the SLFA has engaged FIFA on plans to construct a standard stadium that will meet international requirements. He disclosed that through a partnership involving Saudi Arabia and FIFA, about one billion dollars has been earmarked globally to assist countries without approved playing facilities.

While the process is still at its early stage, he expressed optimism that Sierra Leone will benefit from the initiative. He noted that, in line with FIFA and CAF regulations, any proposed stadium must be located within 200 kilometres of the country’s main international airport, which makes the Western Area a strategic choice given its proximity to Lungi International Airport.

President Kamara concluded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening football governance, expanding sponsorship, improving infrastructure and ensuring that Sierra Leone returns to playing international matches on home soil

By Abdul Rahman Bah On Monday 23 February 2025, at the Parliament Building, Tower Hill…

[1

post-2648","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
