Vice President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, has welcomed new initiatives by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints aimed at expanding access to education, technical skills and employment opportunities for young Sierra Leoneans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Vice President made the statement on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, when he received senior leaders of the Church at the Office of the Vice President\u2019s Conference Room in Freetown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting centred on the Church\u2019s growing partnership with the Government of Sierra Leone, with discussions focusing on its \u201cSucceed in School\u201d programme<\/strong>, healthcare interventions and plans to establish a Global Education Centre<\/strong> in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proposed centre is expected to provide young Sierra Leoneans with access to affordable, high-quality online education and practical skills that could improve their chances of securing employment in the global economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Describing the proposed Global Education Centre as \u201cphenomenal,\u201d Vice President Juldeh Jalloh said the initiative had the potential to transform the lives of young people by giving them access to technology, education and income-generating opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Global Education Centre is phenomenal,\u201d the Vice President said, stressing that technology could enable young Sierra Leoneans to acquire knowledge and earn a living without necessarily leaving the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He assured the Church delegation of Government\u2019s support for the initiative, particularly in facilitating and fast-tracking the necessary documentation required for the establishment of the centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Vice President also commended the Church for its community-based interventions, noting that initiatives which expand opportunities for education and employment could make a significant contribution to national development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, providing young people with opportunities to acquire education and secure decent employment would not only improve their livelihoods but also help build a more responsible and productive citizenry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEvery time a young man or a young woman has got an opportunity to go to school and have a job, they become more responsible citizens,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vice President Juldeh Jalloh further emphasised the importance of partnerships between Government and development organisations in addressing the challenges facing young people, particularly the need for quality education, employable skills and sustainable jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, also highlighted the growing collaboration between Government and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the area of practical education and skills development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She noted that the Church\u2019s support to technical institutions, including the provision of equipment, was helping institutions provide young people with hands-on training relevant to the modern labour market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Wurie said the proposed Global Education Centre was also consistent with Government\u2019s broader efforts to promote technology-enabled learning and expand employment opportunities beyond Freetown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have to embrace technology,\u201d the Minister said, emphasising the need for Sierra Leone to take advantage of digital technologies to equip young people with skills that can lead to dignified employment and entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She noted that access to modern technology and quality technical education could help bridge existing skills gaps while opening new opportunities for young people across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on behalf of the Church, senior leader Elder Clark G. Gilbert announced plans to establish the Global Education Centre in Sierra Leone, describing it as a major investment in the country\u2019s young population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He explained that the centre would combine education, skills development and access to international employment opportunities, potentially creating hundreds of jobs for Sierra Leonean youths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Elder Gilbert, the initiative would provide students with affordable, high-quality education while connecting them to employers around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the model would allow Sierra Leonean young people to work for global companies remotely while remaining in their home country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re looking at hundreds and hundreds of jobs with global employers from all around the world,\u201d Elder Gilbert said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He described the proposed centre as an opportunity to bring together education, skills, employment and income generation, particularly at a time when young people are increasingly seeking opportunities in the digital economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative is expected to complement Government\u2019s ongoing efforts to address youth unemployment by expanding access to skills and creating pathways into emerging sectors of the global economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proposed Global Education Centre could also provide an avenue for young Sierra Leoneans to compete for international employment without the need to relocate, potentially increasing foreign earnings while contributing to the development of the country\u2019s digital workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussions further reinforced the importance of continued collaboration between Government and faith-based organisations in delivering social and economic interventions, particularly in education, healthcare and youth development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
