SL–Liberia Police Deepen Security Ties

On Tuesday, 2nd December 2025, senior officials of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and the Liberia National Police (LNP) convened a high-level working session at the LNP Headquarters Conference Hall in Monrovia to review progress and refine implementation strategies for the recently signed bilateral security communiqué.
The meeting also focused on drafting a comprehensive roadmap for the establishment of the Mano River Union Police Chiefs Committee—a specialised regional security body expected to enhance cooperation, strengthen joint mechanisms, and promote sustained peace, stability, and mutual understanding among the Inspectors General of Police within the Mano River Union (MRU) basin. Both delegations reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to resolving misunderstandings strictly through legal and diplomatic channels, without recourse to threats or the use of force, in line with national laws and international conventions.
During the session, the technical working group held extensive deliberations on four key areas of shared concern:
- Cross-border crime prevention and intelligence sharing
- Joint training initiatives and capacity-building programmes
- Community policing best practices
- Cybersecurity, human trafficking, and the fight against transnational organised crime
Both institutions outlined clear and practical strategies for operationalising the provisions of the communiqué. They noted that these measures will not only strengthen bilateral security cooperation but will also reduce bureaucratic delays in responding to issues of national significance for both countries.
The joint team additionally identified priority areas for phased implementation, aimed at deepening collaboration, improving regional coordination, and supporting long-term peace and stability across the MRU sub-region
