Youth Leaders Convene at High-Level Diplomatic Conference in Addis Ababa

Young leaders from across Africa gathered this week in Addis Ababa for the Sixth Session of the African Youth Leadership Diplomatic Conference, a landmark event that brought together senior government officials, seasoned diplomats, policymakers, and emerging change-makers committed to shaping the continent’s future.
Hosted in the headquarters city of the African Union, the conference provided a strategic platform for dialogue, collaboration, and policy innovation under the theme, “From Policy to Action: Accelerating African-Led Solutions for Regional Peace and Stability.” The gathering emphasized the urgent need to translate ideas into practical, youth-driven solutions that promote peace, inclusive governance, and sustainable development.
Among the distinguished participants was Agnes Sia Bangalie, Chief Executive Officer of Salone Intercontinental Youth Connect, who led a delegation from Sierra Leone. Alongside other youth representatives from across the continent, the delegation contributed to discussions on youth empowerment, education, gender equality, and child development.
The conference attracted influential government officials, regional leaders, representatives of international organizations, and development experts. Their engagement with young participants underscored the importance of intergenerational collaboration in addressing Africa’s most pressing socio-economic and political challenges.
Throughout the sessions, youth delegates actively participated in high-level panel discussions, technical workshops, and networking engagements. They shared innovative ideas and practical solutions tailored to their respective national contexts, fostering a strong spirit of unity, cooperation, and shared responsibility among Africa’s next generation of leaders.
Speaking during the conference, Agnes Sia Bangalie highlighted the critical role of young people in driving transformation across the continent. “This gathering is a powerful reminder that young people across Africa are not just the leaders of tomorrow, but active contributors to change today. Together, we are shaping solutions that will define the future of our continent,” she said.
A key outcome of the conference was the presentation of forward-looking policy proposals developed by youth participants. These proposals addressed critical issues such as unemployment, access to quality education, inclusive governance, and sustainable development. Many were recognized as scalable and impactful, with the potential to influence both national and regional policy frameworks.
Beyond the event itself, the conference has strengthened continental networks among young leaders, created opportunities for partnerships, and enhanced participants’ capacity to implement change within their communities and countries.
For participating nations, including Sierra Leone, the conference marks a significant step in deepening youth engagement in diplomacy and governance. The knowledge gained, connections established, and ideas exchanged are expected to translate into concrete initiatives that will empower young people, promote social inclusion, and drive economic growth.
As the conference concludes, Africa’s young leaders return to their respective countries with renewed energy, a shared vision, and a collective commitment to advancing peace, stability, and prosperity across the continent. The event stands as a testament to the growing influence and potential of youth as key partners in Africa’s transformation journey.
