In a significant stride toward enhancing urban aesthetics and infrastructure in the southern city of Bo, Africell Sierra Leone, in partnership with the Bo City Council, has successfully completed the beautification of the New London roundabout. This initiative represents a vital component of the city’s broader efforts to improve its environment and public spaces.

The completion of the beautification project was celebrated with an official commissioning ceremony, which drew attendance from key local stakeholders, city officials, and Africell representatives, including the company’s Southeast Manager, Khalil Fawaz. Addressing the attendees, Fawaz reaffirmed Africell’s ongoing commitment to supporting local communities and fostering municipal development across Sierra Leone.

“It is not surprising to see Africell joining hands with communities and local governments to make positive changes,” Fawaz remarked during his speech. He praised the Bo City Council’s diligent work to beautify the city, adding, “Africell is proud to contribute to these efforts. We are committed to making Bo, Sierra Leone’s second-largest city, the best city upcountry.”

While Africell has primarily focused its development efforts in Freetown, Fawaz emphasized the company’s renewed focus on extending its impact to other parts of the country. He announced Africell’s plans to support the beautification of four additional roundabouts in Bo, including those at Bonjon Street, Shellmingo, Mahei Boima/Sewa Roads, and Mobil, in alignment with the city’s vision for urban renewal.

Representing the Bo City Council, Mr. Powell expressed gratitude to Africell for its substantial contribution to the city’s development. “We look forward to seeing the completion of the other roundabouts as part of our broader development agenda,” Powell stated. He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to pursuing projects that will not only enhance Bo’s infrastructure but also improve its overall appeal as a key urban center.

Moses Massaquoi, a representative of the Motor Drivers’ Union, lauded the project for its positive impact on road safety, which has been a long-standing concern among drivers in Bo. “Drivers have long been concerned about the dangers posed by the New London roundabout, especially for those unfamiliar with Bo. The protective perimeter now in place is a welcome improvement,” he said. Massaquoi praised the collaboration between Africell and the Bo City Council as a model for other public safety initiatives.

Mayor Musa, in his address, highlighted the importance of the beautification project as a testament to effective partnerships and community spirit. “It is with immense pride and gratitude that I stand before you today to celebrate this significant milestone in our city’s journey towards growth and beautification,” he stated. He acknowledged the dedication of all involved and emphasized that such projects symbolize the potential of collective effort in realizing the city’s development goals.

Reflecting on his long-standing vision for Bo, Mayor Musa expressed his satisfaction in witnessing his dreams for the city materialize through effective leadership and collaboration. He encouraged all citizens, especially members of the Motor Drivers’ Union, to take ownership of the newly beautified spaces, ensuring they remain clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone.

As Bo continues its journey of growth and modernization, the collaboration between Africell and the Bo City Council is seen as a shining example of how public-private partnerships can bring about meaningful and sustainable change in Sierra Leone’s urban centers. The beautification of the New London roundabout is not just a cosmetic enhancement but a demonstration of what can be achieved when communities, local governments, and private sector entities unite with a common purpose.

With further plans to beautify additional roundabouts and enhance other public spaces, Africell and the Bo City Council are setting a new standard for urban development in Sierra Leone, fostering a sense of pride and ownership among residents while making the city a more attractive place for visitors and investors alike.
