CEO Shadi Gerjawi Highlights Africell’s Growth and Innovation During UK Diplomat Visit

On Thursday, November 14, 2024, Africell Sierra Leone proudly hosted the newly appointed British High Commissioner, Josephine Gauld, at their headquarters in Freetown. The visit was an opportunity for both Africell and the British High Commission to further solidify their collaborative relationship and discuss ongoing initiatives aimed at driving development in Sierra Leone.
During the visit, High Commissioner Gauld met with Africell’s CEO, Shadi Gerjawi, and other senior management members, including Afrimoney CEO Martison Obeng-Agyei. The discussions focused on the company’s role in fostering digital financial inclusion and the significant impact of Africell’s services in the country. High Commissioner Gauld took the opportunity to invite Mr. Gerjawi to attend the upcoming birthday celebration of King Charles III, thanking Africell for their continued support of the British High Commission’s efforts in Sierra Leone.

In his address, CEO Shadi Gerjawi reflected on Africell’s impressive growth trajectory in the Sierra Leonean market. He highlighted the company’s leadership in mobile telecommunications and the critical role of Afrimoney, Africell’s mobile money platform, in empowering local communities through digital financial services. “We believe in partnerships that not only drive business success but also foster sustainable development and meaningful change for communities,” Gerjawi said, emphasizing Africell’s commitment to both innovation and social responsibility.
In a further demonstration of its commitment to community well-being, Africell hosted a World Diabetes Day awareness event the same day. In partnership with Denk Pharma, Africell organized a diabetes testing initiative at its Wilberforce Village office. The event aimed to educate employees and the wider community about the risks of diabetes, while providing free health screenings and resources on prevention and management.
By prioritizing both corporate responsibility and the health of its workforce, Africell continues to make significant strides in improving lives beyond the realm of telecommunications.
Africell’s initiatives underscore its mission to not only lead in mobile services but to also contribute to the broader development and well-being of Sierra Leone, aligning its growth with the health, prosperity, and digital empowerment of the nation.
