Court N0 2 Grants Bail to Man Facing Fraud Charges in Freetown

Daniel Alpha, a 66-year-old unemployed man, appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2 on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, facing charges of conspiracy to defraud and causing money to be paid, contrary to section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916.

The particulars of the offence state that between August 2024 and October 19, 2024, in Freetown, Alpha conspired with other unknown individuals to commit a fraudulent act with the intent to defraud. The second count alleges that on the same dates and in the same location, Alpha caused Francis Aiah Ngandemah to pay a sum of Le 177,500 to one Ibrahim through fraudulent means.

When the charges were read and explained to Alpha, he pleaded not guilty to both counts.

The prosecution, led by Superintendent of Police 3379 Balley T., requested a short adjournment as one of the key witnesses was absent. Magistrate Bangura granted the adjournment and set Alpha’s bail at Le 200,000, with two sureties who must be responsible citizens residing in Freetown and owning fixed abodes. The bail terms are subject to court approval.

The matter was adjourned for further proceedings to December 4, 2024.
