President Julius Maada Bio has inaugurated a state-of-the-art transit transport terminal and a modern traffic light system in the Lumley area of Freetown, marking a significant step towards improving transportation infrastructure and road safety in the region.

The newly commissioned terminal, located in the bustling western part of Freetown, is designed to streamline access to transportation services and enhance connectivity between the city and surrounding areas. Officials noted that the development aims to address long-standing challenges such as overcrowding and the lack of adequate transit facilities for both commuters and transport operators.

In addition to the terminal, a cutting-edge traffic light system was unveiled to regulate traffic flow in the congested area. The new system is expected to reduce gridlock, improve road safety, and enhance the overall efficiency of the city’s transport network.

“This is a landmark moment for Freetown,” President Bio stated on his social media account. “I encourage all transport operators, commuters, and residents to embrace these new facilities and commit to their ongoing maintenance to ensure their long-term success.”

The new developments are part of the government’s broader strategy to modernize Sierra Leone’s infrastructure, improve regional connectivity, and enhance the daily lives of citizens. The initiative has been welcomed by residents and transport operators alike, who are hopeful that it will lead to improved accessibility, shorter travel times, and better road safety.

With these improvements, Freetown is set to experience a major boost in its transportation system, addressing key issues while laying the groundwork for further infrastructure development across the country.
