Hon. Osman Timbo Launches Presidential Bid and Youth Movement

On Thursday, 1st May 2025, at the New Brookfields Hotel in Freetown, Hon. Osman Timbo officially declared his candidacy for the flagbearer and leadership position of the All Peoples Congress (APC) party. In a compelling and emotional address, Timbo positioned himself as a new-generation leader determined to transform both his party and Sierra Leone. He announced the formation of the “Young Peoples Movement for Development,” a platform aimed at uniting and empowering young people across the country to take an active role in national development and political leadership.
Timbo began by acknowledging the symbolic importance of making this declaration on Labour Day, highlighting the daily struggles of ordinary Sierra Leoneans—market women, bike riders, teachers, nurses, students, and the unemployed. He criticized the ruling government’s handling of the economy, the growing prevalence of drug abuse among youth, and widespread corruption. He also spoke frankly about the internal divisions and dishonesty within the APC, blaming self-interest and ego among party leaders for weakening its role as an effective opposition. Timbo expressed deep frustration with the 2023 election process, calling it a blatant injustice against the will of the people, but insisted that justice must be pursued through peaceful and constitutional means.
Drawing from his 15 years of service within the party and experience across the judiciary, legislature, and executive, Timbo underscored his qualifications and commitment. He recounted the personal sacrifices he has made—including being removed from parliament, facing targeted political attacks, and professional setbacks—due to his loyalty to the APC and refusal to compromise his integrity. Rather than backing down, he declared that these trials have only strengthened his resolve to lead with honesty, humility, and vision.
Timbo outlined an ambitious vision for Sierra Leone focused on unity, accountability, institutional reform, and inclusive development. He promised to revitalize the economy through industrialization and job creation, decentralize governance, overhaul education and healthcare systems, and invest in infrastructure including the creation of a new modern city. His plan includes empowering women and youth, restoring national values, and eliminating corruption at every level of society. Addressing doubts about his candidacy, he firmly stated that he is fully committed and intends to win, asking all Sierra Leoneans to join him in a new era of leadership.
Ending with a rallying call, Timbo urged citizens to rise and reclaim the future of their country. He pledged that under his leadership, Sierra Leone would be led by sincerity, guided by faith, and driven by the collective will of its people.
