Emmanuel Sahr Kaikai, a 32-year-old man accused of larceny, made his final appearance before Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Court No. 2 on Thursday, 19 February 2026.
Kaikai was charged with one count of larceny contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, the accused, between Wednesday, 1 January 2025 and Tuesday, 22 July 2025, at No. 23 Cantonment Road, off Kingharman Road in Freetown, Western Area, allegedly stole one Lenovo ThinkPad laptop valued at fifty-seven thousand new leones (NLe 57,000), three HP laptop computers valued at thirty-five thousand new leones (NLe 35,000) each, and one Samsung Galaxy tablet valued at twelve thousand new leones (NLe 12,000).
The total value of the items is estimated at one hundred and seventy-four thousand new leones (NLe 174,000). The items are the property of the International Health Projects Administration Unit.
When the charge was read and explained to the accused, he pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutor Assistant Superintendent of Police, Dialla Wellington, informed the court that although the accused is a first-time offender, the prosecution was seeking the maximum sentence.
In his plea, the accused asked the court to temper justice with mercy.
Delivering his ruling, Magistrate Fornah stated that he had considered the submission of the prosecutor, the plea for mercy by the convict, and the fact that the stolen items belonged to the Government of Sierra Leone, thereby depriving the institution of its property.
He therefore sentenced the accused to thirty-six (36) months’ imprisonment or to restore the stolen items to the complainant, or pay the equivalent sum of NLe 174,000.
Magistrate Fornah further noted that the sentence takes effect from the commencement of the matter in court and must be served in full should the convict fail to restore the stolen items or pay the stated amount
