Daniel Kaitibie Assumes Role as Executive Director of SL Maritime Administration Following Parliamentary Approval

Daniel Kaitibie officially started his role as the Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) today, marking a significant development for both the organization and the nation’s maritime sector.

Mr. Kaitibie’s appointment follows the unanimous approval of nine Presidential nominees by the Parliament of Sierra Leone on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. This decision came after the Committee on Appointments and Public Service presented its eighteenth report, highlighting a pivotal moment of progress and optimism for Sierra Leone’s governance.

The Committee on Appointments and Public Service, chaired by Honorable Mathew Sahr Nyuma, began its proceedings on Thursday, July 11, 2024. The sessions included attendance by committee members from various political factions and districts. Each nominee took an oath or affirmation as required by the 1991 Constitution and presented their qualifications, vision, and plans for their roles.

Mr. Kaitibie particularly impressed the committee with his articulate presentation of his commitment to public service and his vision for transforming the SLMA. He outlined his plans to enhance the efficiency and impact of the organization, aiming to drive positive changes within the maritime sector.

The committee, under the leadership of Honorable Nyuma, conducted a thorough evaluation of the nominees. This included rigorous questioning on policy positions, past experiences, and the ability to fulfill their roles effectively. On July 16, 2024, Parliament voted unanimously to approve Mr. Daniel Kaitibie and eight other Presidential nominees. This approval represents a crucial step in enhancing the nation’s governance by appointing capable leaders to key administrative roles.
