Hon. A.K.K Commends University of Management and Technology for its Contributions to Education Reform

On Thursday, August 29, 2024, Opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara, expressed his deep appreciation for the management of the University of Management and Technology (UMT) for their unwavering efforts in transforming the educational landscape in Sierra Leone.
He emphasized that the management team deserves a national round of applause for their significant contributions to reforming the educational sector, which has been facing numerous challenges. Hon. Kamara highlighted that, despite the sector’s decline due to several well-known issues, UMT has managed to transform itself from a mere computer training center into a fully-fledged university, accredited by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC).
Acknowledging UMT’s Role in National Development
Hon. Kamara further analyzed that, since its inception, UMT has produced outstanding leaders from various fields who are currently making valuable contributions to national development. He underscored the importance of recognizing institutions and individuals who are actively working to uplift the nation, stating that such recognition would not only motivate those involved but also encourage others to contribute more towards the country’s progress.
“As Sierra Leoneans, it is imperative for us to inculcate a culture of recognizing those who are contributing to rebranding our nation while they are still alive,” Hon. Kamara remarked. “This recognition would serve as a source of motivation for them and others to do more for our country.”
A Call for Unity and Patriotism
Despite his position as an opposition parliamentarian, Hon. Kamara made it clear that when it comes to acknowledging the efforts of those who are sacrificing for the advancement of the nation, he would not stand in opposition. Instead, he pledged to support and commend such individuals, recognizing them as patriots of Sierra Leone.
“I believe that, regardless of political affiliation, when we see people making efforts to advance our beloved nation, we should stand together in support of those efforts,” he stated. “I will always complement the work of those dedicated to making Sierra Leone a better place.”
A Wake-up Call for All Patriotic Citizens
Moreover, Hon. Kamara emphasized that the efforts of UMT’s administration, particularly the leadership of Chancellor Professor Paul Kamara and Pro-Chancellor Dr. Paula Kamara, should serve as a wake-up call for all patriotic citizens. He pointed out that collective effort is the nucleus of any nation’s development.
“The dedication of Professor Paul Kamara, Dr. Paula Kamara, and their team should inspire all of us,” he declared. “Their work reminds us that true development comes from the collective efforts of all citizens working towards a common goal.”
Upholding UMT’s High Standards
Hon. Kamara concluded by calling on both staff and students to continue upholding the high standards for which the institution is known. He praised UMT for being free from all sorts of educational pitfalls, such as exam malpractice, sex-for-grades, intimidation, and discrimination.
“I urge all members of the UMT community to maintain the integrity and standards that have set this institution apart,” he stated. “Together, we can ensure that UMT remains a beacon of excellence in education, inspiring others to follow suit.”
