National Revenue Authority Commended by Parliament for Surpassing Revenue Targets

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Parliament of Sierra Leone commended the National Revenue Authority (NRA) on Wednesday, July 2, 2024, for surpassing its revenue target for the first half of 2024. The commendation took place at a hearing held in the Administrative Conference Hall of Parliament. The PAC applauded the NRA’s Commissioner General and her team for their successful efforts in exceeding their revenue goals for the first half of the year.

The NRA appeared before the PAC to discuss the settlement of payment of withholding and other related taxes levied on business enterprises, as noted in the Audit Service Report of 2021/2022. Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, who also chairs the Public Accounts Committee, praised the NRA for its significant contribution to President Bio’s agenda of raising essential revenue for national development. “We highly appreciate your work in surpassing your revenue target,” the Deputy Speaker stated.

In an exclusive interview, Commissioner General of the NRA, Madam Jeneba Bangura, expressed profound delight over the commendation by Parliament. She extended her thanks to the entire staff of the NRA for their dedicated efforts towards achieving the Authority’s revenue goals. “We did not only meet our target, we surpassed it,” she proudly stated. Madam Jeneba Bangura also expressed gratitude to Parliament for granting the NRA the mandate, courage, and support needed to raise crucial revenue for the state.

“The reward for good work is more work, and we are now driven to ensure that we handle and are ready to face the second half of this year’s revenue mobilization,” she added.

Regarding the PAC’s work, the Commissioner General expressed pride in the Committee’s efforts based on the 2021/2022 Audit Reports. She stated that the NRA is currently working on the 2023 Audit Reports and is committed to addressing all issues highlighted in the Auditor General’s Reports. The Commissioner General promised to improve on and rectify any shortcomings noted in the Audit Reports for both 2021 and 2022.

The commendation from the PAC underscores the NRA’s pivotal role in Sierra Leone’s fiscal management and its contributions towards national economic stability and growth.
