Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, has welcomed Alicia Robinson-Morgan of the Millennium Challenge Corporation on her first official visit to Sierra Leone as part of celebrations marking Freedom 250, underscoring the deepening partnership between Sierra Leone and the United States in the energy sector.

Receiving the MCC Vice President, Dr. Juldeh Jalloh emphasized the importance of the growing bilateral cooperation and highlighted the transformative impact of the $480 million Energy Compact on Sierra Leone’s national development agenda.

“In Sierra Leone, we are showcasing the partnership between our two governments in the energy sector, at the center of which is the $480 million Energy Compact,” the Vice President stated.

The MCC Energy Compact is regarded as one of Sierra Leone’s most significant infrastructure and development partnerships with the United States, designed to improve electricity access, strengthen power transmission and distribution systems, modernize energy infrastructure, and support critical reforms within the country’s energy sector.

The initiative is expected to play a major role in addressing Sierra Leone’s longstanding electricity challenges while expanding access to reliable and affordable energy for households, businesses, institutions, and industries across the country.

Officials say the compact also seeks to improve operational efficiency within the energy sector, attract additional investment, and create a more sustainable framework for long-term energy development and economic growth.

The visit by Alicia Robinson-Morgan is widely viewed as a reaffirmation of the strong bilateral relationship between Sierra Leone and the United States, particularly in areas relating to infrastructure development, economic cooperation, governance, and energy transformation.

Observers note that reliable electricity remains one of Sierra Leone’s most critical development priorities, with improved power supply considered essential for industrial growth, job creation, digital transformation, healthcare delivery, education, and private sector expansion.

The engagement also reflects the government’s continued commitment to strengthening international partnerships capable of accelerating sustainable development and improving the lives of citizens through strategic investment in key sectors.

The Freedom 250 celebrations provided an opportunity for both governments to reaffirm their shared commitment to cooperation, development, and inclusive economic progress as Sierra Leone continues efforts to modernize its infrastructure and expand opportunities for national growth.
