SL Deputy Ambassador Abdul Aziz Turay Officially Assumes Duties in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh, Wednesday, 9 October 2024 – The newly appointed Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mr. Abdul Aziz Turay, arrived in Riyadh today to officially assume his duties. This marks a significant step in strengthening diplomatic relations between Sierra Leone and the Kingdom.

Ambassador Turay was warmly welcomed at the King Khalid International Airport Executive Lounge by Alhaji Ahmed Tejan Kabba, Head of Chancery of the Sierra Leone Embassy, Counsellor Mohamed Victor Kamara, and a dedicated team of Embassy staff who gathered to celebrate his arrival. The atmosphere was one of excitement and optimism as the team expressed their commitment to working alongside the new Deputy Ambassador.

Mr. Turay’s appointment, which took effect on 1 July 2024, came after he successfully navigated the parliamentary approval process, receiving endorsement from the Committee on Appointment and Public Service on 16 July. This approval highlights the confidence placed in him to represent Sierra Leone’s interests in a key region of the world. Prior to his departure, he took leave from His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio at State House on Thursday, 3 October 2024, signaling the official commencement of his diplomatic mission.

In his role as Deputy Ambassador, Abdul Aziz Turay will work closely with Ambassador Mohamed Sheriff Barrie to enhance and expand the existing bilateral relationship between the Republic of Sierra Leone and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as with Syria and the Sultanate of Oman. Their joint efforts will focus on promoting cooperation in various sectors, including trade, education, and cultural exchange, aimed at fostering mutual understanding and development.

Ambassador Turay brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having previously held various roles in public service and diplomacy. His extensive background equips him to address the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead as he navigates the complexities of international relations in the region.

As he embarks on this important journey, Deputy Ambassador Turay is committed to enhancing the visibility of Sierra Leone in the Middle East and advocating for the interests of Sierra Leoneans both at home and abroad.
