U.S. Amb. Pays Courtesy Call On Speaker Of Parliament

On June 24, 2024, the American Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Amb. Bryan David Hunt, paid a courtesy call to the Sierra Leone Speaker of the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic, the Rt. Hon. Speaker Segepoh Solomon Thomas. During this visit, Amb. Hunt congratulated Speaker Thomas on his historic election as the youngest Speaker in the history of the Sierra Leone Parliament. “Mr. Speaker, congratulations on your historic election as Speaker of the Sierra Leone Parliament,” said Amb. Bryan David Hunt.
Ambassador Hunt also expressed his deep interest in Idris Elba’s project for the people of Bonthe Island. Although he had never visited Bonthe Island, he promised to do so after the rainy season, indicating his active engagement with local initiatives. He assured Speaker Thomas that Idris Elba’s project would bring significant visibility to Sierra Leone. He concluded by thanking Speaker Segepoh Solomon Thomas for hosting him and discussing development initiatives for Sierra Leone, promising to stay in close contact.
Rt. Hon. Speaker Segepoh Solomon Thomas expressed his delight at the American Ambassador’s visit. He reassured Amb. Hunt that the House of Parliament would continue to enact progressive laws under his leadership. Emphasizing the potential economic benefits of Idris Elba’s project for Bonthe, the Speaker called on the American Ambassador to lend his support. He highlighted that the project, which had already received Cabinet approval and would soon be tabled in Parliament for ratification, is expected to provide uninterrupted electricity to the entire island, marking a crucial development for the region.
Speaker Thomas underscored the project’s importance, noting that it would be a significant economic boost for both Bonthe District and Sierra Leone as a whole.
