SLBC Director General Seeks Partnership with UBA Sierra Leone

In a bid to enhance collaboration between the media and financial sectors, Josephine Kamara, the Director General of Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), paid a courtesy visit to Mohamed Alhajie Samoura, the Managing Director and CEO of UBA Sierra Leone, on Friday, 22nd November 2024.
Accompanied by Exzendral Blake, SLBC’s Director of Finance, and Cornelius Thomas, Finance Officer, Kamara’s visit to UBA Sierra Leone marked a significant step towards building stronger partnerships that could have a lasting impact on the nation’s economic growth and development. The meeting underscored the mutual benefits of aligning the reach and influence of media with the strategic initiatives of financial institutions.
During the visit, Kamara and Samoura engaged in discussions centered on the critical role that media can play in advancing financial literacy across the country. Both parties recognized that access to financial knowledge is essential for empowering individuals and communities to make informed decisions about their finances. As one of the nation’s leading media organizations, SLBC has the potential to reach a broad audience, making it an ideal platform to promote financial education and responsible banking practices.
The conversation also revolved around ways UBA Sierra Leone can partner with SLBC to drive impactful community-based initiatives. These initiatives would focus on fostering financial inclusion, supporting entrepreneurial ventures, and encouraging sustainable economic practices, especially in rural and underserved areas. The two leaders explored ideas for collaborative campaigns that could use SLBC’s media presence to deliver essential financial messages that resonate with people from all walks of life.
Samoura emphasized UBA’s ongoing efforts to promote economic empowerment in Sierra Leone through its banking services, particularly in areas such as digital banking, financial inclusion, and access to loans for small businesses. Kamara, in turn, highlighted the importance of media organizations like SLBC in bridging gaps in financial understanding and helping the public navigate the complexities of banking in an increasingly digital world.
The visit also reflected a shared commitment to innovation, with both leaders expressing their desire to leverage their respective platforms to create meaningful change. Kamara stressed that partnerships between the media and financial sectors were essential in achieving sustainable national development, especially in a country where access to financial services is still limited in many areas.
Through their discussions, Kamara and Samoura laid the groundwork for future collaborations, with both parties agreeing on the need for a united approach in addressing some of Sierra Leone’s most pressing challenges. From financial education campaigns to community outreach programs, the partnership between SLBC and UBA Sierra Leone is expected to help accelerate progress in the areas of financial literacy and economic inclusion.
By fostering such collaborations, Kamara and Samoura are helping to create a more informed and financially empowered population. Their efforts will not only support national development goals but also contribute to creating a more resilient economy where Sierra Leoneans can thrive.
