Osman Turay, a 31-year-old driver, appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No.1 on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, facing four charges, including conspiracy, robbery with violence, wounding, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The charges stem from an incident on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Goderich Street in the western area of Freetown. Turay allegedly conspired with others to commit robbery with violence. The prosecution claims that Turay robbed Mohamed Amadu Kamara of a cross bag containing an Infinix Hot 40I mobile phone and cash amounting to Leones 3,450, totaling Leones 5,980. During the robbery, Turay is said to have used personal violence against Kamara.
In counts three and four, Turay is accused of maliciously wounding and assaulting Kamara, causing him actual bodily harm.
When the charges were read to the accused, no plea was taken. Prosecutor Assistant Superintendent of Police, Aminatu Daboh, requested a short adjournment due to the absence of a key witness.
Magistrate Kekura granted Turay bail in the sum of Leones 100,000, with one surety of similar amount. The surety must be a Freetown resident and present a valid national identity card showing their address. The bail is subject to approval by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
The case was adjourned to December 18, 2024, for further proceedings.
