Unity Newspaper Receives Le100 Million Support from Press Attachés

In a gesture aimed at strengthening media and information dissemination, Press Attachés from Sierra Leone’s foreign missions have donated Le100 million (100,000 old notes) to the Unity Newspaper.
The donation was presented by Attachés Cyril Banes and Mohamed Lamin Massaquoi on behalf of their colleagues. The event was graced by prominent government officials, including National Chairman Dr. Prince Alex Harding, Secretary General Umaru Napoleon Koroma, and Press Secretary Yusuf Keketorma Sandy, who expressed profound appreciation for the Attachés’ continuous support to the media sector.
This is not the first time the Attachés have shown their commitment to bolstering Sierra Leone’s media landscape:
Support to Bloggers: In a previous act of generosity, the Attachés made a substantial donation to bloggers through the former Minister of Information and Communication, Mohamed Rahman Swarray. This initiative aimed to enhance media coverage of government activities.
Support to SLAJ: After a burglary at the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) office on July 13, 2022, the Attachés donated a 55-inch Smart Plasma TV to replace stolen equipment. This contribution, presented by Fetus Lahai and Ishmael Bayoh, underscored their commitment to supporting media institutions in challenging times.
The Attachés emphasized their dedication to advancing the development agenda of President Julius Maada Bio and the SLPP Government. By empowering media institutions like Unity Newspaper, they aim to promote transparency, informed governance, and a robust information ecosystem.
The donation highlights the collaborative role of Press Attachés in fostering a vibrant press that effectively communicates government policies and national progress to the public.
