Chief Justice Hosts Egyptian Ambassador for Judicial Cooperation Talks

Sierra Leone’s Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Komba Kamanda, hosted Her Excellency Ms. Rashna Soliman Mohi Eldin Soliman, the Egyptian Ambassador to Sierra Leone, at his chambers on Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown. The high-level visit, which took place today, focused on exploring avenues for collaboration between the judiciary of Sierra Leone and the Egyptian government, further cementing the longstanding bilateral ties between the two nations.
Welcoming the Ambassador and her delegation, the Hon. Chief Justice noted the deep and unique bilateral relationship between Sierra Leone and Egypt, which has spanned decades. He commended the Republic of Egypt for its unwavering support to Sierra Leone over the years and expressed optimism for continued cooperation. “Our countries have enjoyed a fruitful partnership, and I believe this meeting will contribute to strengthening our ties for the mutual benefit of our people,” Justice Kamanda remarked.
Her Excellency Ms. Rashna Soliman congratulated the Chief Justice on his recent appointment, describing it as a significant step in ensuring justice and the rule of law in Sierra Leone. She emphasized that the purpose of her visit extended beyond a courtesy call, as it aimed to identify specific areas where Egypt could support Sierra Leone’s judiciary.
The Ambassador highlighted Egypt’s readiness to assist with capacity-building initiatives, technical support, and logistical aid. “We are committed to sharing our experiences and providing support in areas that will enhance judicial efficiency and service delivery,” she assured.
In his response, Chief Justice Kamanda outlined some of the pressing challenges facing Sierra Leone’s judiciary. These include the need for modernization, particularly in adopting technology to enhance efficiency. He identified critical areas such as improving internet connectivity, transitioning to paperless systems, and enabling mobile and virtual court sittings. “Modernization is no longer optional but a necessity for a fair, efficient, and accessible judiciary,” he stated, adding that the Egyptian Embassy would be fully briefed on specific areas requiring urgent intervention.
The discussions reflected a shared commitment to advancing the judicial systems of both nations. Both leaders expressed a desire to deepen institutional ties and leverage their respective experiences to foster justice and governance. The Hon. Chief Justice stressed that an effective judiciary is essential for promoting economic development and social stability.
At the end of the meeting, Her Excellency Ms. Rashna Soliman presented the Chief Justice with an artistically designed image of Tutankhamun, the celebrated ancient Egyptian king known for his efforts to restore Egypt’s traditional practices and values. The symbolic gesture highlighted Egypt’s rich cultural heritage and its enduring emphasis on the importance of tradition and legacy.
