WARDC Launches Newton Market Rehabilitation and Bridge Construction

The Western Area Rural District Council (WARDC) on Monday, January 27, 2024, officially launched the rehabilitation of Newton Market and the construction of a bridge leading to the Waterloo Market.
Chairman Kasho J. Holland Cole highlighted the project’s significance for the people of Four Mile, Newton, and the surrounding communities. He called on residents to take ownership of the initiative and actively contribute to its success.
“This is a project for you, the people,” Chairman Cole emphasized. “It is crucial that you feel a sense of responsibility for its success. Your involvement is essential to ensure that this project serves your needs and your community.”
The project is funded by the Accountable Governance Service Delivery Projects, with support from the World Bank. This financial backing underscores a strong commitment to improving the living conditions and economic prospects of residents in the Western Area Rural District.
Councilor Halimatu Kamara expressed her appreciation to Chairman Cole and the council for prioritizing the needs of Newton’s residents.
“This market rehabilitation is a project that our community desperately needs,” Councilor Kamara noted. “I urge all residents to come together and support the contractor in every way possible to ensure the timely and successful completion of this vital project.”
The launch ceremony for the bridge construction was officiated by Deputy Chairman Robert Browne and Councilor Abu Bakarr Jeff Kamara. The event underscored the council’s continued commitment to improving access and trade within the district.
Representing the Chief Administrator, Deputy Chief Administrator Peter Koroma attended the event alongside the Development Planning Officer and the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer. Their presence reinforced the council’s dedication to effective oversight and project management.
This initiative is expected to significantly upgrade market infrastructure, foster increased trade opportunities, and enhance the overall quality of life for the affected communities.
