Chairman Mansaray Revamps Bottom Mango Community Ataya Base

By Alhaji Turay
The Bottom Mango Community Development Organization – Ataya Base, situated along Black Hall Road between Moeba, Kissy Brook, Kamanda Farm, and PWD communities in Freetown, is celebrating the successful completion of a long-awaited renovation. The facelift, a key promise made by newly elected chairman Ishmael Sorie Mansaray, has transformed the Ataya Base into a vibrant space for community engagement and youth development.
The renovation, now 100% complete, provides a much-needed venue where young people can gather, hold meetings, and discuss community development initiatives. For years, the youth of Bottom Mango lacked a dedicated and well-maintained space to convene and strategize about improving their surroundings.
Chairman Mansaray, a law enforcement officer with the Sierra Leone Police, described the Ataya Base as a hub for meaningful discussions and intelligent discourse. He emphasized that the upgrades—including repainting, structural maintenance, and beautification—were necessary to enhance the base’s appeal and encourage greater community participation.
“The goal is to create an environment that fosters unity and collaboration,” said Chairman Mansaray. “This renovation is about providing a better space for people to come together, share ideas, and work towards community progress.”
Strengthening Security & Community Ties
Mansaray highlighted the close partnership between the Ataya Base Organization and the PWD Police Post. As both chairman of the organization and a police officer, he has played a pivotal role in strengthening cooperation between the two entities, ensuring safety in and around the base. He noted that law enforcement is frequently engaged to maintain order, providing members and visitors with a secure space.
Commitment to Community Growth
As the newly elected leader, Mansaray reaffirmed his commitment to managing the organization effectively and fostering further development. He pledged to implement more initiatives that would improve the business environment and enhance the base’s role as a center for community development.
With over 135 active members, the Bottom Mango Ataya Base has been an integral part of the community for more than 20 years. The recent renovation is just one of several sustainable development projects led by the youth of Bottom Mango. Looking ahead, plans are already in place to construct a public toilet facility for visitors to the base, further enhancing the experience of those who frequent the space.
Call for Support & Future Projects
Community members from Moeba, Kissy Brook, Kamanda Farm, and PWD have praised Chairman Mansaray and his executive team for their dedication and humanitarian efforts. The Secretary-General of the organization, along with the entire executive body, expressed full support for Mansaray’s vision, stating that they are in alignment with his leadership goals.
In a call to action, Chairman Mansaray urged community stakeholders, NGOs, and other organizations to lend their support to local development projects. He stressed that investing in community initiatives is essential for fostering progress and ensuring a brighter future for the people of Bottom Mango and beyond.
