EU Ambassador and Ghana High Commissioner Bid Farewell to SL Foreign Minister Reflect on Strong Bilateral Relations

On Monday, July 15, 2024, the European Union Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Manuel Muller, and the outgoing Ghana High Commissioner, Her Excellency Mrs. Worwornyo Agyeman, bade farewell to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Musa Timothy Kabba, at the Ministry’s headquarters.

Ambassador Muller reminisced about the long-standing bilateral relations between Sierra Leone and the EU, which have flourished for decades. Reflecting on his three-year tenure, he highlighted the positive interactions with the government and people of Sierra Leone. He assured that these strong ties would be maintained by his successor, emphasizing the enduring nature of diplomatic relations despite the changing of envoys.

Ambassador Muller praised the Tripartite report and its recommendations, noting it as a testament to Sierra Leone’s commitment to conflict resolution. Minister Kabba expressed gratitude to Ambassador Muller and the European Union for their robust partnership in development. He acknowledged the EU’s vital role in post-civil war recovery, particularly in revitalizing the mining sector, and highlighted ongoing EU-funded projects that continue to transform lives in Sierra Leone.

Her Excellency Mrs. Worwornyo Agyeman shared her positive experiences working with the Minister and the Ministry, expressing hope that her successor would enjoy similar cooperation. She voiced her satisfaction with the progress being made, despite occasional challenges, and assured Sierra Leone of Ghana’s continued support alongside ECOWAS.

Minister Kabba reciprocated the sentiments, expressing profound gratitude for the Ghanaian High Commissioner’s service and recalling the deep historical ties between the two ECOWAS nations. He acknowledged Ghana’s unwavering support during Sierra Leone’s turbulent times, particularly during the conflict. He thanked the High Commissioner for her dedication and assured that Sierra Leone values the fraternal, economic, and political relations with Ghana. Minister Kabba also recalled Ghana’s prompt solidarity following the failed coup attempt on November 26, 2023, and expressed eagerness to further strengthen the bilateral relationship
