Ministry of Information and Civic Education Highlights State Opening of Parliament by President Bio

Unity and Democracy in Parliament
Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, lauded the display of democracy in parliament, emphasizing the bipartisan interaction during the State Opening. He highlighted the unity and national cohesion demonstrated by both the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the All People’s Congress (APC), even amidst mild banter across the aisle. Minister Bah urged Sierra Leoneans to continue living in harmony, stressing that “we are all one people.”
Leadership and Historic Attendance
Presidential Spokesman Alhaji Dr. Alpha Kanu praised the camaraderie in Parliament, attributing it to President Bio’s leadership. He noted the historic nature of the well-attended session, pointing out that it was the first time both sides of Parliament congratulated the President for a wonderful speech. Dr. Kanu commended the decorum and unity displayed during the session.
Progress on Feed Salone
Dr. Kanu updated the public on the progress of the “Feed Salone” initiative, announcing that approximately 30,000 hectares of rice have been cultivated this year in regions including Tomabum, Samu, Lokomasama, and Mambolo.

Leader of Government Business in Parliament, Hon. Mathew Nyuma, reiterated President Bio’s call for a free media environment and the responsible use of social media to promote the country’s image. He referenced the repeal of part 5 of the Public Order Act, which has provided journalists with a free environment to practice their profession. Hon. Nyuma emphasized that no journalist is currently imprisoned for their work.

Abdul Kargbo, discussed the constitutional requirement for the State Opening of Parliament as provided for by subsection 3 of section 84 of the 1991 constitution.
