Sierra Leone and Michigan State National Guard Formalize Strategic Partnership to Boost National Defense

A significant diplomatic event took place today as a high-profile delegation from the Michigan State National Guard, accompanied by the United States Ambassador to Sierra Leone and the Deputy Minister of Defense, visited His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio at State House.
The delegation, led by Major General Paul Rogers, Adjutant General of the Michigan National Guard, was introduced by Deputy Minister of Defense, Col (Rtd) Muana Brima Massaquoi. Col Massaquoi expressed appreciation to President Bio for the warm reception and detailed the purpose of the visit: to sign a letter of consent formalizing a State Partnership Programme between Sierra Leone and the Michigan State National Guard.

Col (Rtd) Massaquoi elaborated that the partnership initiative began in 2019 under the previous administration. He conveyed satisfaction that the programme has now progressed to this crucial stage of formalization. The signing of the letter of consent represents a commitment to a long-term and mutually beneficial partnership aimed at enhancing the capabilities and cooperation between the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces and the Michigan State National Guard.
Major General Paul Rogers highlighted the significance of the programme from the perspective of the Michigan National Guard. He noted that many countries are keenly interested in such partnerships, and expressed enthusiasm about Sierra Leone joining this network. Rogers commended Sierra Leone for being the latest addition to the partnership programme and shared optimism about the potential benefits and advancements it could bring to both parties.
In response, President Julius Maada Bio extended his gratitude to the delegation for their visit and the positive deliberations surrounding the programme.
