Stats SL Hosts Liberia’s LISGIS for Collaborative Study Tour on Statistical Practices

In a bid to develop a comparative statistical framework and methodology, the Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) has concluded a week-long study tour at Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL).
The LISGIS delegation visited several key locations, including Stats SL’s headquarters at 1B King Street, Kona Lodge, Freetown, as well as regional and district offices in Port Loko and Magburaka. They also observed an ongoing Consumer Price Index (CPI) training session in Makeni.
The delegation, led by the Deputy Director General of Statistics and Data Processing, Boima H. M. Sonii, included other senior officials such as the Head of Country Statistics and Information Offices, Bebee T. S. Wesley, the Director of Information and Coordination, Youngor Amara, the Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist, Kayloe Ruth Frank, the Statistician of National Accounts, Clarence G. Lamie, and the Statistician of Social Statistics, Salome W. Forkpa.
During the visit, the Statistician General and CEO of Stats SL, Andrew Bob Johnny, highlighted the significance of such exchanges between national statistical institutions. He noted that this visit was a first for Stats SL, marking a significant milestone in fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing within the region.
Mr. Johnny formally welcomed the delegation and expressed his hope that the visit would lead to fruitful discussions and learning opportunities. Presentations by divisional heads at Stats SL provided the LISGIS team with a comprehensive understanding of the statistical practices in Sierra Leone.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mr. Sonii expressed his gratitude for the warm reception from the management and staff of Stats SL. He described the study tour as a valuable opportunity to learn about the commonalities and differences in statistical practices between the two institutions. Mr. Sonii further emphasized that the insights gained from the tour would be instrumental in improving and implementing statistical frameworks and methodologies in Liberia.
The tour not only provided an opportunity to understand Stats SL’s robust statistical frameworks and methodologies at both national and regional levels but also served as a platform for social interaction, capacity building, knowledge sharing, networking, and collaboration.
