Kenema District, Sierra Leone, celebrated a significant milestone on December 17, 2024, with the inauguration of a new gas station by Aminata & Sons. Located along Hangar Road and Weima Street, the station marks the company’s strategic expansion into underserved regions, providing much-needed petroleum services and contributing to the region’s development.
During the lively ceremony, station manager Ibrahim Sorie Kuyateh highlighted the positive impact of the new station on the community. He pointed out that the area, previously hindered by power shortages and limited infrastructure, now enjoys improved lighting and a renewed sense of safety and community activity, especially at night. The gas station, powered by solar energy, has revitalized the region, enabling families to stay out until late hours.
The station, constructed in just two months and three weeks, now employs twelve local workers, creating job opportunities for the community. Kuyateh emphasized the importance of empowering local youth, ensuring both men and women benefit from these opportunities. He also noted the company’s commitment to gender inclusivity, aligning with the government’s 30% female employment initiative.

Alimamy Monrovia, Chief Operations Officer of Aminata & Sons, shared the company’s vision for expansion, with the Kenema station being part of a broader strategy to provide reliable fuel services across Sierra Leone. The company’s roots trace back to Liberia in 1980, and it has since expanded its operations in Sierra Leone, including two fuel terminals in Kissy and Clientel. Monrovia expressed the company’s long-term commitment to Sierra Leone with the slogan “We are here to stay.”
Aminata & Sons has also been active in corporate social responsibility, including sponsoring local initiatives such as the Clientele Football Club. The company plans to continue such efforts in Kenema, contributing to community development.

Looking ahead, Aminata & Sons aims to expand into other regions like Kailahun, Bo, and Pujehun, further strengthening its presence in Sierra Leone’s petroleum sector and ensuring reliable fuel access for all. The new gas station in Kenema is seen as a critical solution to the area’s previous fuel shortages, especially during peak seasons.
The community has responded positively to the station’s opening, with residents expressing gratitude and optimism about the improvements it promises. With its dedication to job creation, community development, and reliable fuel services, Aminata & Sons is poised to play a crucial role in driving economic growth in Kenema and beyond.
