On January 29, 2025, the Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE, officially commissioned the newly constructed Infant Section Building at the Tower Hill Municipal Primary School. This state-of-the-art facility, funded by Dr. Stanella Beckley in memory of her late daughter, a past pupil of the school, was developed in collaboration with the Freetown City Council to provide a nurturing and modern learning environment for young learners.

The newly inaugurated building features two spacious classrooms, a fully equipped staff room, and a resource center designed to support interactive and inclusive education. The facility’s construction aligns with ongoing efforts to improve educational infrastructure in Freetown, supporting the city’s commitment to fostering quality education and capacity building for future generations.

During the commissioning ceremony, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr praised Dr. Beckley’s philanthropic gesture, noting the enduring impact it would have on the lives of pupils at Tower Hill Municipal Primary School. “This initiative stands as a testament to the power of compassion and dedication to education,” she said. “It reflects the kind of collaboration that makes a meaningful difference in our communities.”

Dr. Stanella Beckley, a distinguished educationist, shared her emotional motivation for funding the project, explaining that it was a tribute to her late daughter, who attended Tower Hill Municipal Primary School and cherished her formative years there. “This building is a labor of love and a symbol of hope for generations of pupils who will now benefit from a conducive learning environment,” Dr. Beckley remarked.

The resource center included within the facility is designed to facilitate hands-on learning and educational activities, ensuring that students have access to enriching materials that support a more comprehensive educational experience.

Several key stakeholders, including school authorities, parents, educators, and community leaders, attended the ceremony. They expressed gratitude for the new facility, emphasizing its importance in easing classroom congestion and enhancing the quality of learning for young children.

The Headteacher of Tower Hill Municipal Primary School thanked both Dr. Beckley and the Freetown City Council for their invaluable support. “This structure represents hope for the future. It will encourage young learners to reach their full potential in a safe and nurturing environment,” she said.

The newly inaugurated Infant Section Building stands as a beacon of collaboration between private philanthropy and municipal governance. It underscores the critical role of partnerships in transforming the educational landscape of Sierra Leone, paving the way for continued progress and development.

As the ceremony concluded, students and teachers expressed their enthusiasm and joy, looking forward to a brighter academic future enriched by the new facilities at Tower Hill Municipal Primary School.
