SLP Chief Bids Farewell to Outgoing EU Ambassador Emphasizes Continued Support and Security in SL

Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu, delivered a heartfelt farewell message to outgoing EU Ambassador Manuel Muller, urging him not to forget the SLP and Sierra Leone as he departs from his role.
IGP Sellu praised Ambassador Muller for his dedication to Sierra Leone during his tenure, highlighting the strong interest the Ambassador showed in the country’s development. “Now that you are leaving, I ask that you take Sierra Leone along with you. What I mean is, wherever you have the opportunity to put a word for Sierra Leone, please do,” IGP Sellu pleaded.
The Police Chief emphasized the significant support the SLP has received from the EU, particularly in areas such as the West African Police Information System (WAPIS), INTERPOL, and Cyber Security initiatives. These contributions, he noted, have helped elevate the SLP’s presence on the global stage. IGP Sellu assured the EU of the SLP’s continued cooperation and strong working relationship, despite the change in leadership.
Reflecting on the general security situation in Sierra Leone, IGP Sellu acknowledged that it has improved, particularly after the formation of a tripartite security mechanism during and after the elections. However, he pointed out that challenges remain, especially with the misuse of cyberspace by certain individuals. He stressed that security is crucial for attracting the investments needed for Sierra Leone’s development.
“On behalf of the SLP, I want to say that we are going to miss you for several reasons, especially your intervention in helping us through our difficult times,” IGP Sellu expressed.
Ambassador Manuel Muller, in his response, reminisced about the productive working relationship he had with IGP Sellu, particularly during the election period. He appreciated the Police Chief’s openness and responsiveness during those critical times. While acknowledging his departure, Ambassador Muller reassured that the EU’s commitment to Sierra Leone remains steadfast. He concluded by expressing his fondness for the warm and smiling faces of Sierra Leoneans, which he will miss dearly.
